  66.   device driver provides seamless
  67.   support for accelerated display graphics and advanced
  68.   color resolutions when used with the minimum required
  69.   video memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat
  70.   memory model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  71.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  72.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  73.   been enabled for use with the IBM* Distributed Console
  74.   Access Facility (DCAF) product.

  159.  3.0 PRELIMINARY STEPS
  160.   _________________
  161.  
  162.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  163.   Cirrus Logic device driver:
  164.  
  165.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  166.       to install this driver.
  167.   2.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  168.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  169.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  170.       README before you install this driver.

  173.  4.0 INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  174.   __________________________
  175.  
  176.   To install the Cirrus Logic device driver from
  177.   diskette, do the following:
  178.  
  179.   1.  Insert the Cirrus Logic diskette into drive A (or
  180.       any other diskette drive).
  181.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  182.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  183.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  184.       drive:
  185.  
  186.              A:SETUP A: C:
  187.  
  188.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  189.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  190.  
  191.       Then press Enter.
  192.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  193.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  194.       your computer.
  195.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  196.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  197.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.
  198.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  199.       select Primary Display Driver and then select OK.
  200.   8.  When the Display Driver Select window appears,
  201.       select "Cirrus Logic 5430, 5434 (IBM BBS)"
  202.       to install the BBS video driver.
  203.   9.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  204.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  205.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  206.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  207.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  208.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  209.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  210.       Utility Program" choice, you must have a DOS
  211.       monitor utility that came with your display
  212.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  213.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  214.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  215.  
  216.       NOTE:  At this point, DSPINSTL determines the
  217.              hardware configuration by creating the
  218.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.  If the
  219.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file has not been
  220.              created, the adapter will not be
  221.              supported.  This process can take
  222.              several seconds and will black-out the screen.
  223.  
  224.   10. When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  225.       insert the Cirrus Logic diskette into drive A.
  226.       Then select Install.
  227.   11. When the installation is complete, do the
  228.       following:
  229.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  230.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  231.       c.  Open the System object.
  232.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  233.           the Screen tab.  Then go to Screen page 2.
  234.       e.  On Screen page 2, select your display from
  235.           the display list.  If your display does not
  236.           appear in the list, select Default.
  237.       f.  Return to Screen page 1 and select a screen
  238.           resolution and a screen refresh rate.
  239.       g.  Close the Settings notebook.
  240.       h.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  241.  
  242.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  243.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  244.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  245.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  246.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  247.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  248.   installation problem to IBM.

  251.  5.0 INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT

  254.   NOTES:

  256.   1.  The server must contain a directory named
  257.       CIR_DRVS on the same drive where the OS/2
  258.       diskettes reside.  The CIR_DRVS directory must
  259.       contain all of the files from the Cirrus Logic
  260.       device driver diskette.
  261.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  262.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  263.       Distribution) method.
  264.  
  265.   To install the Cirrus Logic device driver using CID,
  266.   use the following information to modify your LCU
  267.   command file.

  360.        /pd:c:\os2\install\cl54xbb.dsc is the dsc laid down during
  361.                                       setup phase
  362.        /S:X:\img\cir_drvs  where X:\img\cir_drvs  is the redirected source path.
  363.        /T:C: where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  364.        /res:640x480x256 is a resolution/color depth from
  365.         the list of "Supported Resolutions" that appears earlier
  366.         in this README.
  367.        /u  Unattended installation.
  368.  
  369.   NOTES:
  370.  
  371.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  372.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  373.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  374.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  375.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  376.       you select a resolution that your display does
  377.       not support.
  378.   2.  After the CID install, refer the end user to
  379.       4.0 INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE step 11.
  380.  
  381.  
  382.  6.0 FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  383.   _______________________
  384.  
  385.   o   After Dark** for Windows** images that move from
  386.       left to right do not perform properly at
  387.       640x480x16M resolution.
  388.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  389.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows, be sure it is in
  390.       one of the 256 color resolutions.
  391.   o   To avoid a trap in Lotus*** 1-2-3** for OS/2, do
  392.       not attempt to run the program at 16.7 million
  393.       colors.
  394.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  395.       produce a general protection fault when the
  396.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  397.       800x600x64K or 600x480x16 million color mode.
  398.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  399.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  400.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  401.       users of the feature will experience unusual
  402.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive fix package will be
  403.       available electronically.  The software motion
  404.       video feature is not supported in 16-million
  405.       color modes.
  406.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2*
  407.       window session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  408.       full-screen session.
  409.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  410.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  411.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.
  412.   o   Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  413.       supported in 256-color modes only.
  414.   o   You might have to run the CLMODE utility to
  415.       enable the BIOS to generate high-resolution
  416.       modes.

  419.  7.0 SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  420.   ________________________________
  421.  
  422.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  423.  
  424.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  425.       and you do not have a usable OS/2 Desktop, use
  426.       the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  427.       However, if you have a usable Desktop, it is
  428.       recommended that you use Selective Install to set
  429.       your display to VGA mode.
  430.  
  431.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  432.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  433.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  434.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  435.           Alt+F1.
  436.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  437.           press V.
  438.  
  439.       Your display adapter is restored and can work in
  440.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  441.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter
  442.       16, "Video Procedures," in the User's Guide to
  443.       OS/2 Warp.
  444.  
  445.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 2.1,
  446.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you do not have a
  447.       usable OS/2 Desktop, use the following procedures
  448.       to return to VGA mode.  However, if you have a
  449.       usable Desktop, it is recommended that you use
  450.       the Display Driver Install object to set your
  451.       display to VGA mode.
  452.  
  453.       -   If you installed OS/2 from diskettes, do the
  454.           following:
  455.  
  456.           1.  Start OS/2 using the OS/2 Installation
  457.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  458.               1, and then press F3 to display a command
  459.               prompt.
  460.           2.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  461.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  462.               step 2.  If it is not, insert Diskette 8
  463.               into drive A and unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with
  464.               the following command:
  465.  
  466.                    C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  467.  
  468.               (where A: is the drive containing
  469.               Diskette 8, and C: is the drive where
  470.               OS/2 is installed.)
  471.           3.  Type C: and then press Enter.
  472.           4.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press
  473.               Enter.
  474.           5.  Type the following:
  475.  
  476.                 RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:C:
  477.  
  478.               (In /T:C:, C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  479.               installed.  In /S:A:, A: is the diskette
  480.               drive you use to install OS/2.)

  482.               Then press Enter.
  483.  
  484.       -   If you installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN,
  485.           do the following:
  486.  
  487.           1.  Start OS/2 from the OS/2 Installation
  488.               Diskette.  When prompted, insert Diskette
  489.               1, and then press F3 to display a command
  490.               prompt.
  491.           2.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the
  492.               \OS2\INSTALL directory.  If it is, go to
  493.               step 2.  If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE
  494.               with the following command:
  495.  
  496.                   C:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  497.  
  498.               (where C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  499.               installed, and E: is the CD-ROM or LAN
  500.               drive.)
  501.           3.  Type C: and then press Enter.
  502.           4.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL and then press
  503.               Enter.

  508.               (In /T:C:, C: is the drive where OS/2 is
  509.               installed.  In /S:E:, E: is the CD-ROM or
